Apr-May Band takes 2-month break at a chateau in Cannes on the Cote d'Azure in France.

As a note, Ian Little's statement that they spent 3 months there (www.soundonsound.com/techniques/classic-tracks-duran-duran-reflex) doesn't fit the timeline - as mid-March they're in the US / the tail end of March they're in the UK as they filmed ITSISK? lip sync performance shortly ahead of the TOTP airing / John's back in the UK before the 21st of May to film the Pop Quiz appearance / & the whole band have to be in the UK in either late May or early June for the Jackie photoshoot/interview at the fan club. Now, this would provisionally leave somewhere between 7 & 9 weeks in the south of France - during which they worked on overdubs the Hammersmith show for the TV broadcast, rehearsed for the July shows & had some time off (which was 'a' clearly stated purpose of the trip both ahead of time & whilst there) - which perhaps helps to explain the lack of progress with writing & demoing.

May 5 Top of the Pops airs Duran's lip-synch performance of “Is There Something I Should Know?
May Duran begins writing new songs; several demo tracks are recorded, including the song “Seven and the Ragged Tiger”, later to become “The Seventh Stranger

summer WNBC Music Magazine airs a Duran profile, including interviews with John, Andy and Roger
Mid-Jun Duran begins five weeks of recording at George Martin's AIR Studios in Montserrat, hoping to become more focused.

[NB The original date of May on here doesn't make sense for them spending 5 weeks & flying back on the 19th of July - plus there was a bit of time when they were back in the UK after being in the South of France, as the Jackie magazine article of the 2nd of July places them in Birmingham at some point in late May &/or early June.]

Jun 20 Duran records “The Reflex” (with the help of a couple of bottles of John's birthday champagne)
Jun 24 A Midsummer Night's Tube (aka "DD A Day In The Life Of") airs; with Jools Holland interviewing the band in Fréjus, France. From the contents, this was recorded at some point in mid May, during the Cannes Film Festival, with the band talking about focusing on the soundtrack to the Hammersmith show (so that was clearly overdubbed) & rehearsing for the July charity shows workwise; along with having a break.
