"This Is How a Road Gets Made" is a speech by Simon Le Bon, released as a B-side to Duran Duran's nineteenth single "Do You Believe in Shame?" by Capitol-EMI on 10 April 1989.

About the speechEdit

This is one of two spoken word pieces by Simon Le Bon that feature as a B-side to the single "Do You Believe in Shame?", the other is "God (London)".

"This Is How a Road Gets Made" featured during The Big Live Thing Tour as an intro to the band coming on stage. The track wasn't included on the Big Thing album, released in 1988.

SpeechEdit

This is how a road gets made.
Somebody walked on a virgin land.
Someone else saw their tracks and followed them, leaving a path.
It seemed as though I were looking down the hill when I first saw it.
But as I walked on, I realized I was going up.
Somebody whistled behind and turning round, they seemed far below.
Then I came to where there had been a fire and was shaded from the sun by trees.
Figure of eight.
It's our year.
It always was.
