The New Sound of 2004 is an unofficial Duran Duran compilation album, featuring a collection of Astronaut related tracks recorded between 2001 and 2004.

About the albumEdit

The album includes Astronaut demos tracks, recorded by the original five band members. This was during a period when they were renting a house in the South of France and wrote more than 30 songs for the album.

There are demo versions of "Virus", "(Reach Up for The) Sunrise", "TV vs. Radio", "Taste the Summer", "Salt in the Rainbow" and "Pretty Ones". These songs were included on a teaser CD (used to demonstrate the new work to potential labels and producers), which was leaked to the Internet and quickly copied throughout the band's fan base before Astronaut was released.

The compilation also features the unreleased "Beautiful Colours", a track performed by the band during The Reunion Tour and used by FIFA as its Centennial song.
