The Art of the Song was an auction held at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, London, UK on 15 December 2010, which Simon Le Bon actively supported.
About the auction[]
The auction was conducted by PRS (Performing Rights Society) for Music – the organization that is responsible for disbursing royalties to its song writing members and composers. Proceeds from the auction benefited the Teenage Cancer Trust, a British institution that funds specialist cancer units in NHS hospitals for the recovery and care of cancer stricken teenage boys and girls. The cancer organization has a musical connection; concerts are held every year for the cause and feature some of the most famous names in music.
On sale were original song lyrics from 25 leading songwriters, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sting, Sir Tim Rice and Julian Lennon. Simon Le Bon donated hand written lyrics of "Girls on Film", a song actually penned before he joined Duran Duran in 1980 that features lyrics by Andy Wickett.
