Sundown is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The First UK Tour at the Sundown Club in London, UK on 4 March 1981.

About the album Edit

The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Sundown Club, a venue located in the basement of the London Astoria in Charing Cross Road.

The show was the fourth of eight dates performed on the tour.

This is one of the earliest live recordings of Duran Duran available. The performance was part of a tour that helped to promote both Duran Duran's debut single "Planet Earth" (released in February) and April's release of the debut Duran Duran album.

Held in the centre of London, the show was watched by Ken East from EMI and Andrew Loog Oldham, the man who discovered and managed The Rolling Stones.

Andrew Loog Oldham later said "The last time I saw that flash was when Ken East of EMI took me to a club on Charing Cross Road underneath the old Astoria to see the first London gig of Duran Duran, as their first single was about to enter the charts. So it was a career-breaking moment. The group were on that exciting tightrope and it showed. The drummer was real, and was as opposite to the group as Charlie Watts was to the Stones and it worked. They were hungry young pups with a view for the kill."

Tracks from this show are also available on Early Years and Early Days.

The evening also included Biddie & Eve, B-Movie and DJ.

Tickets for the event cost £2.50.

The album front cover features Duran Duran photography by Michael Putland.
