Pop Quiz was a British television show first broadcast by BBC 1 on 4 July 1981.

About the show[]

The show regularly got audiences of 10 million and featured rock and pop stars answering music trivia questions. The original show ran for 45 programmes from 4 July 1981 to 28 December 1984, and was hosted by former BBC Radio 1 disc jockey Mike Reid, who later returned to present a one-off special to celebrate the Top of the Pops 30 anniversary in 1994. The penultimate episode of Pop Quiz in 1984 featured a face-off between pop bands Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran, with their bass player John Taylor also being a regular guest on the show.

1994 series[]

Pop Quiz returned to BBC 1 in 1994 on 21 May 1994 to 9 July comprising of 8 programmes, which was hosted by British radio and television presenter Chris Tarrant.

2008 series[]

In June 2008, after a 14 year break Pop Quiz returned to television on Red TV, with Mike Reid at the helm under the slightly less descriptive title of The Mike Reid Show. This was changed later in the series to Mike Reid's Pop Quiz. Unlike the original series the rivals featured six civilians, who formed two teams of three and was filmed inside a studio comparable of Channel Five's Brainteaser. The show was broadcast on 14 June 2008 to 30 August 2008 and comprised of 12 programmes.

Various merchandise was released including The Mike Reid Pop Quiz board game and  an interactive DVD.
