"Paramount" is a song by TV Mania, released on the Bored with Prozac and The Internet? album by Tape Modern-The Vinyl Factory on 11 March 2013.
About the song[]
Featuring vocals by Tessa Niles, the song was conceived by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and then-guitarist Warren Cuccurullo whilst making 1997's album Medazzaland.
"Paramount" is a mid-album track that features chirpy shopping mall harmonies cascading in a delectably eerie swirl of thumping '90s synths and faux "have a nice day, thank you for shopping" cheeriness.
Recorded in the '90s, Bored with Prozac and The Internet? tells a story about a dysfunctional family whose lives are filmed every day, which pre-dates reality television shows.
Aside from reality TV, the album also explores a broad range of other modern themes, including virtual shopping, surveillance, pharmaceutical drugs, fashion, film, fame and faith. Hence "Paramount" - virtual shopping.
