Merrillville 1989 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Big Live Thing Tour at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville, IN, USA, on 16 March 1989.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Star Plaza Theatre, a 3,400 capacity venue located at 8001 Delaware Place in Merrillville. This was the only show performed in the state of Indiana on the tour.
As the crowd watched from two semicircle seating levels around the stage, Duran Duran appeared in this intimate theatre and opened the show with "Big Thing". "I Don't Want Your Love" was next, a single that rose to number four in the USA.
Duran Duran's nineteenth single "Do You Believe in Shame?" soon followed, which a grieving Simon Le Bon wrote after his friend David Miles died from a drug-related accident in 1987.
During the show, there was a medley featuring Duran Duran's current single at the time "All She Wants Is", with the band's debut release "Planet Earth".
The set closed with the packed house singing along to "Rio".
Tickets for the event cost around $22.00.
