The album is a collection of songs performed by various artists which are connected with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin & Jim Morrison, three American artists who all died at the age of 27 and all within a few months of each other due to a drug overdose.

The compilation includes Duran Duran's "Crystal Ship", a song originally recorded by The Doors (feat. Jim Morrison) which is regarded as a love song to Morrison's first love, Mary Werbelow.
