Gemini is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during An Acoustic Evening Tour at the Academy in New York, NY, USA on 12 February 1993.
About the album[]
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's late show at the Academy, a venue located at 234 West 43rd Street in New York. This was the third show of the tour, which comprised of twenty dates in twelve countries.
As fans arrived at the Academy, they were greeted with the venue's sign that read 'Tonight Duran Duran Sold Out'.
Two and a half hours after the 'Early Show' began at around 7:30pm, Duran Duran took to the stage for their second performance at the venue on this day. Backed by a string section featuring cello and violins, the band launched their set with a powerful acoustic version of "Planet Earth".
Duran Duran delivered most of their hits as well as new songs to the overjoyed audience. The Wedding Album hadn't been released yet and fans heard songs such as "Come Undone" for the first time.
Before performing "Save A Prayer", Simon Le Bon brought out a stool to sit on. The band then played an acoustic version of the song that lasted almost ten minutes.
For the first encore, Duran Duran chose Iggy Pop's self-mocking "Success", a song about a rock star who finally wins fame's prize.
The show closed after midnight with "Rio".
Tickets for the event cost around $22.50.
