Mark 'Spike' Stent is a British record producer and audio engineer, whose work has included mixing Duran Duran's All You Need Is Now album.

Biography[]

Mark grew up in Surrey, not far from the Jacobs Studios which he became totally fascinated by as a teenager. In 1981 (aged 16) he began working at the studios, initially doing all sorts of manual jobs, such as repairing tennis courts and working on the grounds. Mark stayed at Jacobs for four and a half years, learning engineering from chief engineer Ken Thomas. After this he worked for two years at Trident Studios, and went freelance at the age of 22 in 1987. His real breakthrough came at Trident, which was his work with KLF in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Mark has also worked out of Olympic Studios in London, but has since moved to Los Angeles where many of his clients are. The studio in LA was built as part of a joint venture between himself and EMI. His clients have included Björk, U2, Keane, Depeche Mode, Muse, Erasure, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Goldfrapp and Maroon 5.
