Duranies Carnival is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Strange Behaviour Tour at the Hollywood Rock Festival, Praça da Apoteose in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 8 January 1988.

About the album[]

The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Praça da Apoteose, a venue in Rio de Janeiro designed by well-known architect Oscar Niemeyer.

This was Duran Duran's first ever performance in Brazil, held at the second edition of the Hollywood Rock Festival in front of 100,000 people. The headliners for the 1988 four day event were Supertramp, The Pretenders, Duran Duran and Simple Minds.

Simon Le Bon, John Taylor and Nick Rhodes came on stage to an explosion of sound from the crowd. Duran Duran opened with the most successful Bond-movie single "A View to a Kill", with many of the audience dancing non-stop.

Before launching into "New Religion", John Taylor said "Good evening. Once upon a time we wrote an album, we named it about a far off wonderful land. We would like to play a song about something we all need right now, new religion."

Near the end of the show, Simon Le Bon held up a Brazilian flag and encouraged the crowd to sing the intro to "The Reflex". This led into the closing song "Rio", with the crowd chanting "Rio".

The album is incomplete, missing the final six songs from the setlist. Footage from this show is also available on the 1988 Working for the Skin Trade video.

Disc 2 features bonus live tracks from The Strange Behaviour Tour from an unknown show.
