Drum: An Extraordinary Adventure - Her Race Around The World is a 128-page book written by Simon Le Bon and Neill Cheston, published by Macmillan Education Australia Pty Ltd on 23 October 1986.

About the book Edit

The book charts the story of the Maxi yacht Drum, competing in the Fastnet race during 1986.

Crew members on board the yacht included Simon Le Bon and Duran Duran's managers Paul and Michael Berrow. The book details the event when Drum suddenly lost her keel in gale force winds and capsized. This was a near fatal incident which trapped six crew inside including Simon Le Bon.

The yacht was later completely re-fitted in record time making the start of the Whitbread Round the World Race with just 2 days to spare, against these incredible odds she went onto take 3rd place out of 15 entrants.

Featuring many photographs, the book was published in both softback and hardback editions. This publication accompanied the documentary film Drum - The Journey of a Lifetime.

Introduction:
The book includes an introduction by Bob Fisher who is a yachting correspondent for the Guardian and Observer newspapers in the UK. He also has been covering the America's Cup since 1967 and wrote daily columns for Sail World during the 2007 Louis Vuitton and the America's Cup.
