About the albumEdit
The album is a recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Philipshalle, a 7,500 capacity venue located at Siegburger Straße 15 in the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. This was the second of three shows performed in Germany on the tour.
After playing twelve shows since 11 November 1988, the tour reached Düsseldorf. At 8:00pm, Duran Duran took to the stage for their first and only ever performance in Düsseldorf, a city where the influential electronic music band Kraftwerk came from.
Just over a month after the Big Thing album was released, Duran Duran delivered the title track as the opening song to the show. The band then broke into a selection of hit singles, beginning with "I Don't Want Your Love" from September 1988.
Going all the way back to their 1981 self-titled debut album, "Planet Earth" was combined with Duran Duran's current single "All She Wants Is". Nick Rhodes punctuated "Planet Earth" with his near-trademark synth sound.
Throughout the night, the band mixed most of their greatest hits with new songs. In total, seven songs from Big Thing were performed.
Tickets for the event cost around 30 Deutsche Marks.
