Cardiff: December 18th 2000 is an unofficial Duran Duran live album, recorded during The Pop Trash Tour at the Cardiff International Arena in Cardiff, UK on 18 December 2000.
About the album[]
The album is an incomplete recording of Duran Duran's performance at the Cardiff International Arena, a 7,500 capacity venue located in the capital city of Wales. This was the only show performed in Cardiff on the tour.
It was just over 20 years since Duran Duran first played in Cardiff, appearing as the opening act for Hazel O'Connor's Megahype Tour. That show was held at the Top Rank on 18 November 1980.
Duran Duran's UK Christmas tour were all sold-out dates. These shows featured the world's first use of 'augmented reality' technology, used in live concerts. Duran Duran worked with a computer graphics producer to create advanced 2D and 3D visual effects, which allowed animated characters to appear live on stage with the band.
The evening began with The Vegastones, a rock band made up of two Australians and a Bulgarian.
With an instrumental introduction of "Kiss Goodbye", Duran Duran appeared on stage in darkness. An explosion of light signalled the start of the show, as the band drove into the hard egded "Last Day on Earth" from Pop Trash.
On tour in support of the band's tenth studio album Pop Trash, "Last Day on Earth" was the first of four songs taken the new album during the evening.
Cardiff: December 18th 2000 was printed with the incorrect date of December 12th. The bootleg is also incomplete, missing the first four songs from the setlist.
Tickets for the event cost around £18.50.
